The Kappa Chi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on Auburn University’s campus on June 12, 1976 under the leadership and guidance of Beta Xi Omega, Tuskegee Graduate Chapter. The chapter was formed due to the hard work and exceptional talents of twelve phenomenal women: Vanessa Walker Bennett, JoAnn Blackmon, Deborah Huntley, Kay Lane, Tamika Lovett, Gloria Maddox Morgan, El Wanda Penn, Priscilla Rowe Thomas, Patricia Hicks Satcher, Johnnie Johnson Tinsley, Ernestine Kinslow Tolbert, and Jimmie Tyson. These women sought to bring an eternal sisterhood to Auburn University’s campus that would encourage higher achievement and continue a strong legacy of service and community involvement. Kappa Chi is currently under the guidance of the Mu Sigma Omega Chapter located in the Auburn-Opelika area.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated had its humble beginnings as the vision of nine college students on the campus of Howard University in 1908. Since then, the sorority has flourished into a globally-impactful organization of over 355,000 college-trained members, bound by the bonds of sisterhood and empowered by a commitment to servant-leadership that is both domestic and international in its scope.
